Dr. Valerie Crumpton is Dean of Doctoral Programs at Jakes Divinity School. She is both a strategic leader and supportive advocate for all aspects of doctoral education at JDS. Balancing administrative oversight and active engagement in academic initiatives includes program development, curriculum planning, and ensuring alignment with institutional goals, academic progress and outcomes for doctoral students’ success. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, Dr. Crumpton helps advance the mission and vision of Jakes Divinity School, ensuring academic excellence and accreditation compliance, championing student success, faculty development, and continuous improvement across all areas of academic affairs.

 

Dr. Crumpton holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (University of Phoenix), a Master of Business Administration in Management (Dallas Baptist University), and a Doctor of Ministry in Semiotics (Portland Seminary, George Fox University). She is a PhD (ABD) in Practical Theology at Palm Beach Atlantic University. She serves on the Board of Regents at Portland Seminary and the Board of Trustees at George Fox University. Her experience includes Adjunct Professor, Instructor, and Mentor Pastor at the Perkins School of Theology.

 

Dr. Crumpton is also an Associate Pastor at The Potter’s House of Dallas, where Toure and Sarah Roberts are Senior Pastors. As a mission-driven Associate Pastor, she has more than 14 years’ experience in all elements of organizational leadership and achievement in creating inspirational environments. She has been successful in overseeing community services, adult ministries, student ministry, children’s ministry and worship ministry. Highly welcoming and accomplished in developing and shepherding new and existing church members, Pastor Crumpton is committed to guiding individuals to Christ and devising strategies to sustain ministry’s long-term goals. She is a dedicated partner to initiatives that help promote learning and support the community.

 

As part of her pastoral responsibilities, Pastor Crumpton oversees the Ministerial Alliance, Military Veterans Ministry, International Translations, and the Sacrament of Communion.

 

Dr. Val, as she is endearingly called, is a proud member of the Alpha XI Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Theta Alpha Kappa Honor Society for Religious Studies and Theology. She has two daughters, two grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.

  • Strategic Leadership & Planning
    The dean develops and implements strategic plans for doctoral programs, aligning them with the university’s mission, research priorities, and workforce needs DAV University+1. This includes curricular planning, program development, and ensuring alignment with national and international standards.
  • Program Oversight & Quality Assurance
    The dean monitors academic progress, milestones, and outcomes for doctoral students, ensuring adherence to regulations and quality benchmarks DAV University. This may involve coordinating with dissertation chairs and committees, reviewing progress reports, and facilitating timely thesis and defense processes DAV University.
  • Admissions & Recruitment
    The dean often chairs or serves on the Doctoral Admissions Committee, guiding the holistic review of applicants and ensuring fair, consistent admissions practices American Public University+1. They may also work with admissions representatives to support prospective students through the application process.
  • Research Integration
    Doctoral programs are closely tied to the university’s research mission. The dean fosters interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, supports faculty and students in securing grants, and promotes research outputs such as publications and patents DAV University+1.
  • Faculty & Student Support
    The dean works with faculty to mentor doctoral candidates, coordinate dissertation advising, and ensure students have the resources, mentorship, and funding needed to succeed American Public University+1. They also serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and other university administrators.
  • Resource Allocation & Budgeting
    The dean allocates resources—such as facilities, equipment, and funding—for doctoral programs, including graduate assistantships, fellowships, and research grants northwestern.edu. They may also manage or recommend the creation of research centers.
  • Compliance & Policy Implementation
    The dean ensures doctoral programs comply with institutional, legal, and ethical standards, including research integrity and diversity commitments DAV University+1.
